Life Changing Stories

Bess Livingston

My name is Bess Livingston. I'm in my mid 60's. I've been a lifelong Equestrian, a runner for 30 plus years and have competed in many Triathlons. I have worked out with numerous personal trainers over the years. During COVID I made the decision to relocate myself and my horses to our family farm in Northeastern Oklahoma.

As restrictions began to relax I decided it was time to get back to the gym. My search for a trainer in my area was fruitless. My riding instructor trains with Kirkland and highly recommend him to me.

I've been training with him since late 2021. He is by far the best trainer I've ever worked with. His knowledge in the field of physical therapy sets him apart from others. He is aware of my personal physical restrictions and very attentive to my goals.

I drive an hour to Springdale several times a week to train with him. That being said, I highly recommend him to anyone that is looking to better themselves physically.

Mark McKenney - Mountain Bike enthusiast & competitive racer

I have been working closely with Kirk Simpson over the past 2 years, which has proved to be the absolute best investment I could make for both my health and improved quality of life. He has been able to guide me through both old and new injuries from years of riding and racing bikes at a high level, including life’s hard knocks.

With many well thought out techniques gained from being an excellent athlete, including an employee in the Physical Therapy field, he has helped me work on physical imbalances and mobility issues that haunted me and held me back, contributing to chronic pain.

He is hands down both a consistent and fervent athlete of advanced strength training in the gym, so he practices what he preaches! Mostly, what impresses me about Kirk is his uncanny, intuitive ability to guide your body from weakness or injury to a place of strength and confidence…Truth.

Jerie Beth Karkos - Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician

I would like to share my "story," of how Kirk Simpson helped me gain function. He is an astute observer and superb at thinking outside of the box to address contributing factors to suboptimal function.

9 years ago, I was a healthy, independent woman working towards an active retirement. Able to drive, walk up and down flights of stairs, walk with our 2 big black dogs, carry our grandchildren, and dance. Then I was beset with a complex neurological disorder and various secondary medical problems which combined to severely limit my life goals.

Though I had an excellent medical team; severe imbalance and vertigo (to the point of frequent face-plants with injury), vision and hearing loss, generalized weakness and very low endurance were the major factors affecting participation in life. Because I am in a rehab, medical, & university level educational field myself, it was difficult to accept I would be using mobility devices the rest of my life; At first I needed a cane, then digressed to needing lofstrand crutches and finally became close to needing a wheelchair whenever we were outside. Driving a vehicle was not safe, in my opinion. ...However there is a saying that "he who doctors himself, has a fool for a doctor." I knew I needed professional help, but routine physical therapy (with excellent therapists, I might add), was a challenge to justify with insurance.

And then...I met Kirk Simpson, who was not only a licensed physical therapy assistant, but a certified trainer as well. Thus, he understands pathology for development of an individualized program for someone like me. This was key to interpret my own body signals-- when I should push myself and when I should not.

In the past 2 1/2 years, under his care, I have been able to discard both the walker and lofstrand crutches, as I am safe to walk independently on most days with occasional use of single cane only when hiking on very uneven surfaces. My medical issues remain, but in the last 3 years working with Kirk, I can now wash floors, vacuum, cook, shop, and carry 20+# of groceries or bird feeders into my house, and carry my grandchildren safely. I have not had a true fall in over 1 1/2 years. My neurologist is ecstatic and we both give Kirk much of the credit. Next I will dance and run...;-)

Kirk is probably one of the best Trainers/fitness coaches in Northwest Arkansas. He is not only extremely knowledgeable on fitness and mobility, He is also extremely passionate about his craft.

Kirk has fixed my form on many lifts, Has helped me reach my desired body fat percentage, and has also made me passionate about lifting and working on my health. I recommend Kirk as a personal trainer due to how well he understands this subject and he is also extremely flexible. If you are considering Kirk, start working with him asap.

Being a gymnast I have been in and out of back & hip pain for the last 3-4 years. I have worked with multiple professionals to help, with nearly no results. After I had to stop gymnastics, I turned to weight lifting to stay active and in shape but my back & hips were still always hurting.

Meeting with Kirk was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health because I not only had the results I was look for after just one session I learned how to maintain them on my own! He really takes time to try and understand what is going on and takes on a different approach to feeling better than all other professionals I’ve been with.

His exercises have not only helped me in the gym with my lifts, but I can also go about my day much more comfortably without having the slightest hint of pain. Everyone needs to see plus one fitness💪

I have been in Kirk’s training program for 10 months. I have always been very active and am mid 60s age. The results have been way beyond my expectations with increase in strength, muscle mass, stability and great improvement in upper back pain. Kirk is flexible, patient, open minded and has a broad comprehensive knowledge. Many Thanks Kirk!

Zach Pazdera- Physical Therapist Assistant, Nutritionist, Kinesiologist

I’ve known Kirk now for a couple years. In this time I have been impressed by the growth he has presented. This really is his calling and it shows. He has always had a love for health. For his family, his friends, and even people he doesn’t know yet.

What makes him stand out, is his passion to help enlighten others to have a change in their own perspective about health. This is a man that will be present with you, in the world of distraction we live in. He will have the tougher conversations about health where others might shy away. You will feel seen, stable, motivated, heard and have hope about your health.

Knowledge and experience are the most valuable assets you can have as a trainer and Kirk has them. He is able to explain stretching, exercise & breathing techniques; in a way that is not only-easily understandable, but will also give you a new way of thinking about movement. Rather than just doing a movement, he shows you how to really be present and feel the movement. Getting you back into your body and being confident in what you do and who you are. He is really good at instilling hope in people. I strongly believe there is a difference in teaching something you have gone through and teaching something you read.

Kirk has gone through extensive strength & fitness training programs along with rehabilitation himself. Gaining valuable insight in both areas. Combine that with his depth of understanding, knowledge, empathy, calmness, passion for the health of people and you got a one of a kind trainer.

I guarantee, you will not find anyone like Kirk. I strongly recommend him, especially if you are serious about your health and goals.
