My Philosophy

I’m Kirkland Simpson, owner of Plus 1 Fitness, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, & a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. I am passionate about the pursuit of us all meeting our full potential. I am motivated by the idea of educating you, supporting you, & challenging you to accept responsibility for your physical and mental health.
I have always been an athlete, but a battle with knee injuries has led me down this lovely path. Since 2015 I have fallen in love with the health & fitness space. I have spent considerable time & effort changing my lifestyle. Performing & studying resistance training, athletic performance, yoga, mindfulness, & most importantly, nutrition. On top of personal pursuits, my time spent getting my physical therapy degree has provided me with a deep understanding of physical & brain to body requirements all humans need to live daily without limitation. Spending time in various medical settings & lucky enough to have experience with ages as young as 6 months to over 100 years old.

My Journey
How It Began
2010 - 2014
Although I achieved this goal after some time as a player, it soon became apparent that finding my purpose was more than being naturally talented at something.
It was needed to be something that required hard work and dedication through consistent practice over time.
2015
But I could go to physical therapy and the gym to lift weights. With the help of Youtube fitness pages like Bradley Martyn, Ulissess World, & Simeon Panda, I was determined to learn all the basics of lifting. Through this determination, I grew to love being in areas related to the gym and athletic settings.
I became curious about the science of the body, and it quickly became an outlet for my mental health.
2016
Following my first semester of college and having no idea what to pursue, I discovered that NWACC offered one of the country's best Physical Therapy Assistant programs. Taking this knowledge as a sign, I set my sights on it and never looked back.
That is, until December 28th, I endured another severe injury to my left knee. My ACL, MCL, Lateral & Medial meniscus, & Patellar Tendon were all torn or partially torn in the incident.
2017
After not being selected for the PTA degree, I took an off year. Mentally this became a significant year for me and my personal growth. I could find out who I was through the help of my newborn brother.
I could visualize who I wanted to be for myself & those around me.
2018 - 2019
Then August came. I was the youngest of 11 to graduate from the program at 21. Earning my degree & license as a Physical Therapist Assistant. I began my career at an Outpatient clinic specializing in Balance & Vestibular Dysfunction.
During that time, I hired a trainer and put all my effort into getting in the best shape of my life. This experience gave me the clarity of vision I needed to move forward.



The Birth of Plus 1 Fitness
The wild year of 2020 came along. I quit my PTA job to begin Plus1 Fitness. It was scary. All the what if’s held me back for months. However, I believed in myself and decided it was now or never. Not only for me but for the potential impact I knew I could have on others
Striving for improved health across this nation trickles down through generations. I do this to improve personally and to be someone worthy of setting an example for my three siblings, who are just beginning their lives.
Although physical therapy is the foundation of my knowledge, I felt limited in using my overall abilities to impact people holistically. That is why I started Plus1 Fitness.
Plus1 is about fighting to maintain the mindset of moving forward and elevating by one daily. Setting daily minimums & not failing to meet them. So many of us think of health & fitness as making drastic and immediate changes driven by the momentary motivation to improve by +20 every day. Quickly burning out and failing to succeed long-term because you forgot the foundation.
The foundation of setting sustainable, practical lifestyle changes you can maintain for life. This is the key to avoiding poor health. To do this, we can’t be narrow-mindedly focused on the physical. We must take care of our mental well-being as well.
Wherever you’re at, there is a good chance I’ve been there or have worked with others in the same position. Using the Plus1 mindset, you will achieve your goals and create a life-long relationship with health & fitness. This journey starts now. I am here to guide & support you the whole way.
